Alan Carr loves bird watching....the geeky binocular kind

Every now and then we ask a celebrity to come into the Daily Star office to guest edit the GOSS column.
We sit back, hand the column over to them and let them chat about their lives and other celebrity stories of the day.
We did exactly this with Alan Carr. Who is one of the naturally funniest people I have ever met.
He had me and my Goss sidekick Sonja crying with laughter.
The hour we spent with him was an endless stream of banter, sarcastic remarks and filthy/ comedy stories. This man really has no boundaries.
And though he was slagging off other celebrities all over the shop, he really doesn't have a nasty bone in his body. It's all just part of the act.

The last time I came away from an interview in pain, because I'd laughed so much my cheeks/ stomach muscles were sore, was about five years ago when I interviewed The Bear from Bo Selecta.
Still makes me laugh thinking about how ridiculous that moment of my career was.

Anyway, during our Goss edit we found out Alan Carr loves bird watching.
He explained: “I really like bird watching. I haven’t done it for ages, but I love it. I love the quietness of it.
"For my 16th birthday I got a pair of binoculars. It’s a bit creepy but I loved them.
“The thing is though – all the nature reserves in Northampton where I’m from, they’re all dogging sites so I can’t go down there with my binoculars any more. "

Alan also told us he'd love to star on Celebrity Come Dine With Me but thinks the guests are naff.
He said they'd have to up the ante and get some A listers on before he'd even consider it.
He revealed: “I would love to do Celebrity Come Dine With me, but the celebs would seriously have to go up a notch.
“I love the idea but I’m not being funny, I don’t want to do it with Howard from the Halifax and Fatima Whitbread.
“If it was Mariah Carey and Lady GaGa and we were all going round each other’s houses I would be in. But I’m not doing it with MC Hammer and Alison Hammond.
I can’t cook. But you don’t go for the cooking, you go to snoop around the house don’t you and get really drunk?”

Ahh poor old MC H and Alison.

Something off Sex In The City

I had a weird realisation tonight while sitting around a table with some of my favourite girlfriends.
In between gulping Rose, scoffing nachos and homemade relish (made by my friend Nikki's fiance) I suddenly realised I've got a cool job and some of the best friends in the business.
I don't often dwell on such matters, and rarely even think about how lucky I am. Until tonight.

I went for dinner at my friend Nikki's flat in north London. She's a features journalist at The Sun, she's blonde, hot, young and already found the man of her dreams.
The other two dinner guests were my best mate Sam - a former journalist who now works at a top London PR company and my wonderful friend Ellie - a showbiz journalist for leading woman's magazine New!

Firstly, Ellie has the best name is showbiz, Ellie Piovesana - try spelling that when you've had a few. She's a cool bird, she could probably drink Kate Moss under the table and has some of the best jewellery this side of Vivienne Westwood.
Sam's been my loyal sidekick for 15 years, we lived our intoxicated University years living together and probably still cause as much mayhem now as we did then. It goes without saying she's one of a kind.

Anyway, as we sat and drank and debated work, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, other journalists, the desperation in PR's voices trying to pitch something shit over the phone and men... I realised we were the current day reality of a London Sex In The City scene (without the TV cameras or huge pay check, obviously. Or superstar glow.)

Four young women, working hard, playing hard and generally not really giving a crap about life except for cherishing the things we love.
I thought as an outsider we probably looked like a cliquey bunch of media types. We really aren't - just four girls from the Midlands, working hard in the Big Smoke.) It suddenly dawned on me, this was a moment worth remembering.
I always hoped to be successful enough in life to have a great job, great friends and a great social life. Bingo.

Nikki's modern day man Simon cooked chicken fajitas and spicy rice for us girls while we sat back and nattered like fish wives. He's a good egg.
When the conversation turned to communal wanking - men, not ladies, I realised it was time to call a taxi.
And yes, lads actually do this together, with their friends, in the same room! I know, weird or what? I hope to never see any of my mates 'sex faces' let alone hear their cries of that 'final moment'.
Simon also admitted, quite proudly, that as a kid he owned a sex sock. A sock he kept under his bed for times of.... ahem... solo fun. Sorry Si.

Anyway, I'm at home now and contently full and happy. I hope we always have these girlie nights, even when we're grey and wrinkly.

Jordan and Alex Reid.... the end of something monstrous.

So the showbiz world is in a frenzy as Katie Price and Alex Reid are set to officially announce their separation this afternoon.
It's just flashed up as Breaking News on Sky News... gotta be true then, hey? (cough, cough)
All I know so far is it was Jordan's decision to end the marriage, Alex is said to be "distraught" and the statement will be brief (maybe in honour of their short-lived nuptials? 11 months if anyone cares.)

Anyway us, the Daily Star, the royal 'we', have been reporting for months that Jordan and Alex were going to split... so right now we’re feeling a little smug.
Albeit, a wee bit sad for Alex, as he generally seemed like an all round nice guy, pre-Jordan.
We said Alex should’ve sacked Jordan off (in a nice way, obviously, “it’s not you, it’s me” blah blah) when he won Celebrity Big Brother, bet he wishes he had now. Poor blighter.

Piers Morgan has already jumped on the bandwagon tweeting that he thinks Jordan could get together with Sir Alan Sugar after the big bazooka'd babe told him Alan was "very sexy, for an old geezer."
Other people think Alex will how take part in and win Celebrity Tool Academy, which is bound to be commissioned at some point.
By the way, if you haven't checked out Tool Academy on E4, you should.
Pure, comedy viewing. Oodles of men who clearly need to spend more time away from the mirror and out of their own arses.
Anyway.
It's unfortunate that Jordan’s marriage has failed, at the very same time Peter Andre finally, after a year of banging on about being lonely and wanting a bed buddy, finds love with sexy senorita/ part time WAG Elen Rivas.
Life's a bitch.

Another theory is... this was a cunning plot by the glamour gofer to ruin arch enemy/ nemesis/ more successful rival Posh Spice's limelight.
The Pricey (self named, still makes us a little queasy) loves trying to overshadow and out-do Victoria.
And it's safe to say Vicky B's baby announcement is now firmly old news.
She's a clever old boot that Price character.

Anyway, on a serious note, I think these type of doomed celebrity marriages are really sad.
Why do people get married after knowing each other 28 minutes? It's bound to end in heartbreak.
Oh, actually, Jordan doesn't seem to have much of a heart these days, does she?
Knowing her, she flogged it for a fiver.
